Concrete Block Wall Repair in Vancouver
For this project, we did concrete block wall repair and replacement at Killarney Gardens Housing Co-Operative, located at 2998 E 54th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5S 1Y5. Several masonry walls had deteriorated to the point where their structural stability was compromised, requiring removal and reconstruction along with related concrete and drainage improvements.
Restoring Masonry Walls for Long-Term Structural Stability
Deteriorated masonry can progress from visible cracking and movement to a serious structural concern. Timely masonry block wall repair helps prevent further damage and protects surrounding areas from the risks associated with unstable or collapsing walls.
For this project, some existing walls were no longer suitable for localized repairs and required replacement.
Our team completed the necessary structural wall repair work with a focus on restoring stability while also addressing conditions around the walls that could affect their long-term performance.
Scope of Work
The primary objective was to repair concrete block wall structures by removing and replacing sections that had become structurally compromised. Related concrete repairs were also completed around the property.
The scope included:
- Removal of failing and structurally compromised concrete block walls
- Reconstruction of masonry walls to restore structural stability
- Repair of cracked concrete pathways
- Patio concrete crack repair within affected areas
- Assessment and correction of drainage issues around repaired locations
- Final review of completed masonry and concrete repairs
As a result, the collapsing block walls were replaced with structurally sound assemblies, while damaged concrete surfaces in pathways and patios were repaired to improve their condition and serviceability.
Challenges Overcome
One of the important challenges identified during the project was inadequate drainage at several locations. Poor water management around masonry and concrete structures can contribute to recurring moisture exposure, soil movement, and premature deterioration.
To address the issue, our team completed drainage pit installation at various locations around the property.
Improving drainage helped manage water more effectively and complemented the structural repairs, reducing the likelihood that the same site conditions would continue affecting the newly restored areas.
